Institution: No breakthrough in Middle East situation, European Central Bank likely to raise interest rates this week.
Analyst Jan Felix Gloeckner of Insight Investment said that due to the lack of breakthrough in the Middle East situation and the escalating conflicts, the possibility of a rate hike by the European Central Bank on Thursday is almost certain. The senior investment expert pointed out in a report that "the latest forecasts by ECB staff may lean more towards the unfavorable scenario outlined in March, where inflation continues to rise while economic growth gradually slows down." Considering that the energy shock is expected to last longer, Insight Investment believes there may be room for a second rate hike later this year. Gloeckner stated that the market will be particularly focused on policy guidance after June, with the European Central Bank expected to maintain policy flexibility.
