Wong Pak Ming was sentenced to five months in prison.
Hong Kong filmmaker Raymond Wong, who is now 80 years old, was sentenced to five months in prison on June 9 by the West Kowloon Magistrates' Court in Hong Kong for insider trading. He was also fined over 99,000 Hong Kong dollars and ordered to pay investigation costs of approximately 374,000 Hong Kong dollars. The judge, Andrew Ge, pointed out during the sentencing that Wong's actions as a shareholder of a listed company had damaged public confidence in the Hong Kong stock market. Despite Wong's lifelong dedication to the Hong Kong film industry and the fact that the actual benefits received by his younger sister were not significant, his actions had an impact on public confidence, therefore the reasons of reputation damage and health issues were not accepted as grounds for leniency.
