BMW temporarily abandons L3 level autonomous driving.

BMW models were once equipped with level 3 autonomous driving systems, but due to the technology not reaching a profitable level for commercialization, the priority for level 3 autonomous driving projects has temporarily decreased. BMW Group Global CEO Oliver Zipse stated at the 2026 fiscal year meeting that this does not mean BMW will abandon higher levels of autonomous driving technology research and development. The company will continue to monitor the development trends of autonomous driving technology, and once feasible commercialization models for higher-level autonomous driving technology emerge, related research and development work will be immediately promoted.
