The Chinese space station successfully ensured the first extravehicular mission with spacesuits D and E outside the cabin in orbit.
Shenzhou-21 astronauts Zhang Lu and Wu Fei successfully completed their first extravehicular activity wearing the newly upgraded extravehicular spacesuits on the 9th. This is the first time that the Chinese space station has used the spacesuits D and E for extravehicular tasks. On that afternoon, reporters saw on the screens in the lobby of the Beijing Aerospace Flight Control Center that the new extravehicular spacesuits were signed by Zhang Lu and Wu Fei respectively. During the extravehicular activity, the extravehicular spacesuit is the core equipment to ensure the astronauts' safety and efficient operation in space. "This extravehicular activity fully demonstrates the astronauts' active role in space, and the extravehicular spacesuit effectively provides safety for the astronauts," said Zhai Zhihong from the China Astronaut Research and Training Center. The two sets of extravehicular spacesuits used in this extravehicular activity were transported to the Chinese space station on July 15th with the Tianzhou-9 cargo spacecraft. They belong to the second generation of "Feitian" extravehicular spacesuits in China, with research designations D and E. After the initial three spacesuits A, B, and C used in orbit, these are the second batch of extravehicular spacesuits for the space station phase, with the main color being pure white and accents in red and blue.
