On the 6th, President Trump signed an executive order requiring the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission to establish food supply chain security working groups to investigate price monopolies, anti-competitive behavior, and specifically focus on situations where foreign capital controls companies. A White House document stated, "Companies controlled by foreign capital are increasingly involved in crucial sectors, raising the food costs for American families - this is the issue that the working groups are specifically tasked to investigate." The document also stated that the two working groups have the authority to take enforcement actions and establish new rules to combat anti-competitive behavior. In addition, one year after the issuance of the executive order, the working groups must report on the progress of the investigation and make recommendations on whether appropriate congressional action should be taken.
