The head of Boeing's defense department stated on Saturday that President Donald Trump's "government purchase of equity in the defense industry" plan does not apply to major defense companies. This statement contrasts with comments made earlier by a senior government official. "The plan actually only applies to the supply chain sector, especially for small businesses - buying shares may be a feasible way to help these businesses obtain partial ownership," said Steve Parker, CEO of Boeing's Defense, Space, and Security Department during a panel discussion. "I believe that the plan does not apply to 'prime contractors,'" Parker added. The "prime contractors" he referred to are major defense contractors with a long history such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, and Northrop Grumman.
