Apple plans to reject India's order to pre-install network security apps.
The Indian government recently issued a mandatory regulation that requires smartphone manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung to pre-install the "Sanchar Saathi" network security app on phones sold in India. Companies must comply within 90 days and it is explicitly stated that users are not allowed to disable the app. According to reports, three sources revealed that Apple intends to refuse this order and will not pre-install the app on iPhones. The company will inform the Indian government that, due to security and privacy risks, Apple will not comply with such orders in any market it participates in. Of course, Apple may not be able to continue refusing to comply with government orders, but the fact that the company chooses to resist rather than silently obey is still significant, and further developments are yet to be observed.
