Study data presented at a medical conference on Saturday showed that Amgen's drug Imdelltra, when used in combination with AstraZeneca's immunotherapy Imfinzi, reduced the risk of death by 58% in patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer, outperforming Imfinzi alone. For this aggressive and difficult-to-treat cancer, Imfinzi is currently the standard post-chemotherapy treatment option for patients whose disease has not worsened after initial chemotherapy. The study showed that patients in the combination group had a median survival of 21.1 months, compared with 12.7 months in the monotherapy group. Amgen Chief Medical Officer Paul Burton said that the earlier Imdelltra is used, the greater the clinical benefit patients receive. He said the results are unprecedented in advancing the treatment of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer.
