Recently, multiple consumers have posted on social media their purchased Bao Shifu extra-long egg tarts. Some consumers praised the extra-long egg tarts as "cheap, fun, and suitable for gifting"; however, many consumers also complained that after biting into the egg tart, the interior was largely a hollow, flaky pastry structure, with only a thin layer of filling. One consumer said that after peeling open the Bao Shifu extra-long egg tart, almost only the pastry remained, "dry and unpalatable, it's a tax on intelligence." On September 28, Bao Shifu's official customer service told reporters that the extra-long egg tart is not sold at all stores and depends on the specific store's situation. Regarding the production process, it said that standards are consistent across all stores nationwide, and when new products are launched, specialized production masters are sent to stores for training. Public information shows that Bao Shifu's extra-long egg tart was launched on September 20 and is about 60 centimeters long. Douyin merchant data shows that Bao Shifu's extra-long egg tart has a retail price of 18.9 yuan each, and as of September 28, more than 700,000 units of the product had been sold.
