To continue providing consumers with price relief ahead of the first round of the presidential election on October 4, the Brazilian government has extended measures aimed at curbing fuel price increases. Brazil's Ministry of Finance issued a decree ensuring that diesel subsidies totaling 2.12 reais per liter will be extended for at least another 30 days, building on the provisional measure that took effect on May 30. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Finance on Friday, the extension did not change the subsidy amount. This month, Brazilian President Lula announced further cuts to fuel taxes, aiming to protect consumers from the oil price surge caused by the U.S.-Iran war. These measures also include cuts to taxes on gasoline and ethanol.
