Guterres calls on countries to formulate energy transition roadmaps.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on countries on the 23rd at the UN climate summit to formulate practical and feasible energy transition roadmaps with clear timetables, while urging the international community to increase funding to help developing countries cope with climate change. In his remarks, Guterres said: "The world is crying out for climate justice, and in mitigation, adaptation and finance, we must respond to that call with action." Guterres called on countries to increase funding for climate action, with developed countries taking the lead in raising at least 300 billion US dollars in climate finance per year for developing countries, and striving to increase the scale of global climate finance to 1.3 trillion US dollars per year by 2035. Guterres also said that rapidly growing electricity demand, including from artificial intelligence, must be met by adding renewable energy, power grids and energy storage facilities. He also stressed that the energy transition must be ensured to be fair and just, creating jobs and strengthening social protection, while enabling developing countries to participate in determining the transition process and share its dividends.
