On Thursday, CPU-related stocks surged, lifting the Nikkei 225 index, after Meta announced a small handheld device called "Meta Charm." The device is designed to run Meta's new Muse AI assistant, boosting demand for key computer components. By the midday break, the Nikkei was up 1.33%, while the Topix edged up 0.12%. Kazuaki Shimada, chief strategist at IwaiCosmo Securities, said the news lifted shares of other CPU-related companies. Socionext, Meiko Electronic, and Ushio Inc. each rose more than 10%. Chip testing equipment maker Advantest gained 4%, and SoftBank Group edged up 0.52%. The strategist said chip-related stocks have tended to withstand rising yields in recent trading.
