Pimco said that, taking together nominal yields, term premiums and swap spreads, there is fairly scant evidence that AI companies' larger-than-expected debt issuance is pushing up U.S. Treasury yields. Multi-asset credit strategist Lotfi Karoui wrote in a report that the AI capital expenditure boom may indeed raise the equilibrium real interest rate through the savings and investment channel, but the narrower view that AI debt issuance is having a direct crowding-out effect on U.S. Treasuries is hard to find support for in the data. Pimco noted that there were six larger-than-expected debt issuance deals over the past year whose existing bonds fell abnormally around the announcement of the issuance, suggesting that the size or timing of these offerings was not fully priced in by the market.

HKEX Managing Director and Head of Markets Wilfred Yiu said that the HKMA and the SFC jointly formulated a roadmap for the development of the fixed income and currency markets last year, and many of its details have been implemented through HKEX. He noted that the 5-year Treasury bond futures launched in August this year saw open interest rise from about 900 contracts in the first week of launch to nearly 3,000 contracts at present, attracting market participants from the Middle East, Europe, the United States, and Southeast Asia, reflecting that this is a direction worth developing. Speaking at the Treasury Markets Summit, he revealed that a renminbi-denominated gold futures contract settled in Hong Kong is expected to be launched in early next year, with more investment products in commodities such as renminbi-denominated precious metals to be rolled out successively, in order to enrich the choices of renminbi-denominated assets. Novo Nordisk is open to the idea of upgrading its New York listing, as part of the Danish weight-loss drugmakers efforts to raise its profile in the US, following a similar move by UK rival AstraZeneca earlier this year. Asked whether Novo would consider listing its shares directly on the New York Stock Exchange, replacing its current American Depositary Receipts, chief executive Mike Doustdar said: I do see some advantages of doing that. Im the kind of person who doesnt usually start by saying no, I start by saying maybe. However, he stressed the company was not currently working on the idea.
