Driven by the rise in U.S. chip stocks, South Korea's Composite Stock Price Index surged 2.9% at one point, briefly surpassing the 7,000-point mark. SK Hynix's stock rose over 6%, propelling the index higher, with Samsung Electronics and SK Square also following with gains. Foreign funds purchased KOSPI stocks during morning trading, while local funds sold. The benchmark index has increased over 11% this week. The Korea Startup Market small-cap index rose by as much as 2%.
